The Research Triangle Park belongs to the people of the North Carolina and is a national economic treasure. For over fifty years, great stewards of the Park worked together. From industry, government and university, they moved North Carolina forward.

The obligation to continue that great legacy now rests with us. To meet today’s challenges, we need bold new ideas for how to ReConnect our communities, ReImagine our future, and ReDevelop our state.

More than 50 years ago RTP’s founders gathered and asked themselves, “What great thing can we do for North Carolina?”

Their answer: build a research park that would provide meaningful jobs, improve access to high-quality education, and help North Carolinians improve their quality of life. Over the last five decades the Park has done just that, transitioning our state from a struggling agricultural and manufacturing base to a leader in the knowledge economy.

Today we face our own economic challenges, but we’re still committed to our founders’ goals — so we’re redeveloping RTP to lead our state into the innovation economy.

Learn more about North Carolina’s history below, and explore the rest of ReImagineNC.com to join the conversation about how we can create a better future together.

What’s your North Carolina story ?

More than 50 years ago Archie Davis traveled around the state in a little white car and asked North Carolinians to invest in our state’s future.

One day when Archie stopped to pump gas, a truck driver asked him what he was doing so far from home. When Archie laid out the vision for the RTP, the man pulled $25 dollars out of his wallet and offered it to the project.

He said he never planned to work at RTP, and he didn’t know if his children would — but he wanted a place where his grandchildren could be educated and work in North Carolina.

The driver’s contribution meant a lot to us — in fact, we still have it marked in a log book at RTP headquarters.
